Description

A rather splendid example of a Royal Artillery or 'Gunner's' sweetheart brooch. These were given to wives or girl-friends by serving officers. This is a rather superior one, set with diamonds on 18ct white gold and platinum, so was probably a gift to the wife of a high-ranking officer in the regiment. The brooch represents a field gun with its ramrod, below a Royal crown. The blue enamelled motto 'Ubique' above the wheel means 'Everywhere' and the lower enamelled motto ribbon 'Quo Fas et Gloria Ducunt' - 'Where Right and Glory Lead' - stirring stuff! The brooch was probably made in the late 1930s and is 1 5/8 inches: 42 mm across
